General Details

The NexEV Type 2 to Type 2 Spiral EV Charging Cable is a flexible AC charging cable designed for electric vehicles and compatible Type 2 charging equipment. Its coiled construction provides a compact alternative to conventional straight charging cables, helping reduce cable clutter when stored or in use.

Available in 16A and 32A configurations, with single-phase and three-phase options supporting charging outputs of up to 7kW, 11kW or 22kW, depending on the selected configuration.

The cable features Type 2 connections at both ends, a durable TPU jacket, IP55 protection and a fire-retardant construction.

Performance

  • Connector Type: Type 2 to Type 2
  • Rated Current: 16A / 32A
  • Charging Output: 7kW / 11kW / 22kW
  • Phase: 1-phase / 3-phase
  • Rated Voltage: 250V / 480V
  • Cable Length: 5m straight cable used during manufacturing
  • Workable Length: Approximately 2.5–3m when fully stretched
  • Spiral Construction: Approximately 25% spiral ratio
  • Workable Length Ratio: Approximately 50%
  • Operating Temperature: -30°C to +50°C

The actual charging power is determined by the selected cable configuration, charging equipment, electrical supply and vehicle's onboard charger.

Spiral Cable Design

The cable is manufactured using a 5m straight cable before forming the spiral configuration. When fully stretched, the resulting usable length is approximately 2.5–3m.

Each end retains approximately 0.5m of straight cable, with the remaining section formed into a spiral.

The coiled design helps keep the cable more compact between charging sessions and can reduce excess cable lying on the ground during use.

Type 2 Connectivity

The cable uses Type 2 / IEC 62196-2 connectors at both ends, making it suitable for connecting compatible Type 2 electric vehicles to compatible Type 2 AC charging equipment.

It is designed for Mode 3 AC charging applications and is stated to conform to relevant IEC and EN charging standards.

Safety & Features

  • IP55 protection
  • Fire-retardant construction
  • Flame-retardant PC connector shells
  • TPU cable jacket
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Impact resistance
  • Pressure resistance
  • Over 10,000 no-load plug-in/pull-out cycles
  • Insulation resistance greater than 1000MΩ at DC 500V
  • Withstand voltage of 2000V
  • Contact resistance of 0.5mΩ maximum
  • Terminal temperature rise below 50K

The cable is also specified as capable of qualifying a 1m drop test or 2-tonne vehicle run-over test under the stated mechanical testing conditions.

Build Quality

The connectors use copper alloy contacts with nickel base plating and a 3μm silver surface plating for durability and conductivity.

The connector shells are manufactured from fire-retardant thermoplastic PC, while the charging cable uses a durable TPU outer jacket.

  • Connector: Copper alloy with nickel base plating and 3μm silver plating
  • Connector Shell: Fire-retardant thermoplastic PC
  • Cable Jacket: TPU
  • Cable Colour: Black
  • Shell Colours: Black or white
  • Protection Rating: IP55
  • Fire Retardant Rating: UL94 V-0

Compatibility

  • Type 2 electric vehicles
  • Type 2 AC charging stations
  • Type 2 wallboxes
  • Compatible Type 2 AC charging sockets
  • Mode 3 AC charging applications

Important: The vehicle and charging station must support the selected current and phase configuration. A 22kW charging cable does not automatically provide 22kW charging if the vehicle or charging installation supports a lower charging rate.
